My name is Marius Leifeld and I was born 37 years ago in the beautiful city of Paderborn. Already in my early years I developed a passion for hospitality and cuisine, shaped by the many trips with my family. My hotel industry training and the following years abroad strengthened my desire to one day open my own hotel.
My professional journey began in a renowned 4-star hotel in Paderborn, where I completed my apprenticeship as a chef. After my training, I went further afield to expand my skills and experience. My years of traveling first took me to Ireland, to the renowned 5-star hotel Ashford Castle. After my time in Ireland, I went on to London and finally to Switzerland, where I was able to work in some of the best addresses in the country. This also included the Grand Hotel Kempinski in St. Moritz, the Swiss posh ski resort. As deputy head chef, I was responsible for the team of 45 chefs and cooked for the Princess of Thailand and the President of Kazakhstan, among others.
After my first professional chapter in Switzerland, I took a detour to Australia, where I worked in a luxury lodge on an Aboriginal reserve and then traveled to Southeast Asia. Due to Corona, I temporarily went back to Paderborn, but the Swiss offers were attractive and I quickly found myself in the charming Swiss Alpine town of Chur.
Each station enriched me not only professionally but also personally and gave me valuable insights into different cultures and cuisines. I was allowed to open a new luxury restaurant there and was given overall culinary management.
After many years of traveling and working in some of the best hotels in the world, I realized in my mid-30s that my traveling years were coming to an end and I wanted to settle down. It was important to me not to settle abroad, but rather to use the opportunity to return to my homeland in East Westphalia. This decision was influenced by the desire to implement the experience and knowledge I had gained in my own hotel and to offer my guests a unique and personal experience.
My hotel, the Landhaus Schieder, is characterized by its rich, historical history. It is located on the site of a former farm of Schieder Castle, which once belonged to the Princes of Lippe. The hotel consists of two historical buildings: the former tenant house, which was built in 1900, and the former horse stable. Both buildings are over 100 years old and built from beautiful sandstone quarry that I immediately fell in love with.
In addition, the hotel features an extensive green area and a newly designed terrace, which offers a beautiful outdoor dining area that is unparalleled in the region. This combination of historic architecture and modern amenities makes Landhaus Schieder a unique place where history and comfort combine perfectly.
As a guest at Landhaus Schieder, you will feel, from reception to farewell, that you are spending your stay in a small, owner-managed hotel. The charm and friendliness of our staff will make your stay something very special. We attach great importance to ensuring that every guest feels at home with us and receives personal, warm care.
A special and very formative moment for me was when I went to reception one morning while I was on the early shift. The first rays of sun of the day bathed the area in a warm light, and when I looked up I saw the hotel’s own hawks nesting above the main house. That morning they flew out with their young, soaring upwards and then adventurously diving back down, only to rise again. This magical and truly bonding experience made me once again aware of the special connection to nature and the uniqueness of my hotel.
